Rejoice! Rejoice!

I’m back from vacation.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), I went from zero to sixty upon returning. Things are very busy at home and at work, so updates may be a little less frequent for the next couple of weeks. (Or I could say screw real life, and update hourly. Probably that won’t happen, though.)

So what happened when I was gone? Forget hurricanes, Barney Frank being awesome (but damn, that was awesome) and a major political figure passing away. You guys, Project Runway is back!

Let me say that again. It’s a joy to type.

Fortunately, we had cable at the beach house, so I was able to keep up with Tim, Heidi, Michael and Nina. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so glad to have a TV show return. When Heidi introduced Tim to the judges, I felt like crying. With Runway gone for so long, and no more episodes of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, there was a major hole in my TV watching. (And in my heart. I love Tim so much.)

It’s too early for me to pick favorites, but I will say I’m glad that the super creepy Malvin is gone. Also, Logan is hot in a Tim Riggins way, I really want to love Qristyl, despite her weird name spelling, Gordana is fantastic should¬†go far, and Mitchell looks like the long-lost brother of Michael C. Hall.

If you’re like me and can’t get enough Tim Gunn, here’s a great interview with him by the Trib’s Maureen Ryan.

In case you missed it, here’s Tim’s Daily Show interview from August 19th.¬† I love that Jon Stewart is a hardcore Runway fan.

Yes, please!

Little known fact for you blog readers: I have a huge crush on Stephen Merchant. Loved him since Extras, and loved him even more when he was doing a weekly radio show for the BBC.

And look, they’re doing a movie, too! It’s been too long, boys. Too long.

Two for two

This is old news by now, but I’d like to jump on the bandwagon and say: YAY! NPH is hosting the Emmys! Also, it appears I am quite predictable. On the day this was announced, I got not one but TWO texts from people delivering the news. What can I say? I am what I am…. That’s Popeye. (Bonus points to anyone who gets the reference.)

I’m excited about this, but I also hope it doesn’t hurt his chances of a nomination and/or a win. Anyone who watches HIMYM knows he’s at least worthy of a nomination. And IMO, a win, but so far the Emmy people haven’t agreed. But what do they know? They give Jeremy Piven awards just for breathing. And Martin Sheen didn’t win in all the 7 years The West Wing was on the air. And have they never watched Dexter? Why diss Michael C. Hall ever year, and not even recognize Dexter‘s amazing supporting cast? And don’t even get me STARTED on Friday Night Lights.

Even so, I love the show and watch ever year. (And every year, I’m disappointed.) At least this year will have a good host.

In honor of the news, here’s one of my favorite NPH clips. Makes me laugh every time.

You make ME crazy

I haven’t posted anything about the American Idol finale, mostly because I don’t want to cause any interweb wars over Adam vs. Kris.

I will just say that I think the wrong person won, and even though it will be better in the long run for Adam to not be contracted with American Idol, it still pissed me off and made me sad because he should have won. He was clearly more talented. And I don’t even think that’s objective. Say what you will about his style of music, and his artistic choices – I know they are not everyone’s cup of tea. I didn’t like everything he did (despite my love for Simon Cowell, and generally thinking he is a brilliant music producer, Adam completely ruined “One” a few weeks ago – you don’t mess with perfection), but it was clear from the start he was the most talented contestant. And, if that weren’t enough, I am honestly still kind of baffled by his losing after the penultimate show – “A Change is Gonna Come” was, hands down, the best performance of any song ever to grace the American Idol stage. (And that includes anything Melinda Doolittle ever did – which says a lot.) In case you missed this performance, here it is. You can’t tell me he didn’t deserve it after that. (Not even taking into account the whole season – “Tracks of My Tears”, “Mad World”, etc.)

Anyway…those are my thoughts.

Except – have you all seen this? It’s for some charity event awhile back. May I just say, on a totally superficial note, DAMN. I’m totally going to an Adam Lambert show one of these days. The entertainment value alone will be worth the price of admission.

It’s gonna a LEGENDARY Tony Awards!

Have you heard the news? Have you????

Television’s resident ladies man – and my personal TV Boyfriend, Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the Tony Awards!

Seriously?? Two of my most favorite things – Broadway and NPH – together? (I know, I know, he’s been on Broadway, but I’ve never seen him live, so this is the next best thing.)

Okay, I’ll admit it – I only started watching the Tony Awards last year. But in the middle of it, I thought to myself, “Why have I – who loves all things award show and all things theater – NEVER watched this?” I vowed then and there to never miss another Tony Awards, if I could help it.

The Broadway Universe must be rewarding me in some way for my increased theater love this year.

Thank you, Broadway.

The Tony Awards, with HOST Neil Patrick Harris (did I mention NPH is hosting this year?) are June 7th, and will be broadcast live on CBS from 8-11. Don’t miss it!

Video of the Day: Here’s a taste of NPH on Broadway, as the Emcee in my favorite show, Cabaret.
